16 August 2004 Interior Images
16 August 2004
Thumbnails of interior images are posted below, by popular request. Click on a thumbnail to see the high resolution version, file sizes as shown. This is a relatively modest set of images - I may add more soon.
I'm sharing time between the interior and the exterior (the right wing in particular) about equally now, though the emphasis will shift to the interior as I struggle to try to clear the rear of the cabin of material and side panels so I can pressure wash the area behind the side panels and the remaining unwashed sections of the light fixtures before the warm weather passes. It's not just a matter of being warm enough to perform the washing - it has to remain warm long enough to insure thorough drying of the interior before winter sets in.
I've performed a lot of cockpit work, but much of it is indiscernible in the images because it's of a detail nature or is wiring related and isn't visually obvious. But the P5 panel was replaced with one from a Delta 727 which wasn't mauled by wire harness cutting as my original was. You can see the new illumination device controls in the bottom section of that panel (most were missing in the original, and the associated wires cut). Unfortunately, the wiring harnesses and round connectors are not identical between the two, so some light control and other functionality wasn't directly recovered, and some connectors and receptacles don't match. I've modified some connections, but have many more to work out - this is very difficult and time consuming work, so patience is required.
I have running water in all three lavs, two of the three water cup dispensers, and one of the two galley sinks. It's really nice to have a convenient place to wash my hands or quench my thirst. But these restorations are primarily just the result of replacing leaking or missing gaskets, sealing the primary titanium tank where portions of the plumbing were, unfortunately, removed, and repairs of other damage from the salvage operation or simple deterioration over time. There's much more plumbing work to do, including continued restoration of the original systems, the addition of the first exterior water hose connection (which will be just behind the lower leading edge fueling door on the right wing), modification of the flush mechanism in the lavs, and, when the time is right, addition of a shower stall.
There's more to the general story, but I'm out of time for now - I'll try to add more rhetoric later.
Regards, Bruce
